Ahegao

Ahegao

Definition:

“Ahegao” is a term that originated within the anime and manga culture and was exaggerated by hentai.

It refers to a specific facial expression during sex that a woman makes, which can also be described as an “oh” face, but with the addition of pleasure, ecstasy, rolling eyes, and in a state of orgasm.

Over the years, it’s gained popularity online, followed by various memes from both anime and hentai.

Synonyms:
Pleasure face, ecstasy face, orgasm, women.
Antonymys:
Neutral expression, stoic face.
History:

The term blends the Japanese words “ahe” (アヘ), meaning the sound made during pleasurable anticipation and “gao” (顔), meaning face.

It became known in the early 2000s with the rise of explicit doujinshi (fan-made comics), hentai, and adult anime. Not to mention internet memes and the growing anime fandom at the time.

In the 2010s, it was banned from various anime cons (the clothing for ahegao rather than ahegao itself).

In the 2020s, as a result of Anime Motivation (after doing a deep dive on its history), the term has become controversial.

The reason is thanks to anecdotal stories relating to hentai and sexual abuse (which is hypersensitive).

This started a movement of creators, fans, and people alike, “educating” others on why Ahegao shouldn’t be taken so lightly via social networks like Twitter.

Example Sentences:

"Do an Ahegao face."
"Ahegao face is cringe".
