Growth of the keyword “Hentai” in the USA since 2004 (it’s declined slightly in later years).
When analysing the data via Google Trends, a treasure trove of statistical trends, the USA has seen a bit of a dip in popularity for HENTAI in particular.
But the trend is far from dying, regardless of the supposed changes.
Let’s talk about the most popular US states that seem to be the most:
- Interested.
- Gung-ho.
And curious about Hentai, in a top 20 ranking starting with number 1!
Here’s a list.
The Top 20 US States Starving For Hentai:

4. Oklahoma

As we can see from the list:
- Alaska.
- Hawaii.
- Nevada.
- Oklahoma.
- California.
These states in the USA dominate the charts. Interestingly, many of these US states aren’t even in the top 5 largest, except California.
States like Nevada, Oklahoma, the island of Hawaii, and Alaska have modest sized populations, with Alaska being smaller than Derbyshire in the UK (a rural countryside).
And yet, the populations in these smaller states seem to LOVE hentai a great deal, and seek it out much more than other US states combined.
California is, of course, unsurprising in general, given how humongous the US state is, not to mention how influential it is in not just a US context, but a global context as well.
All forms of media, including anime and hentai in this case, only makes sense that it would be popular with the locals of this state (anime adaptations are published in California, but that’s another story).
